State Increases to Minimum Wages in 2025
Each state, and in some cases each county or city, is responsible for setting its own minimum wage law. Below are each state’s minimum wage listings with upcoming 2025 changes noted. Only states with changes in 2025 are listed. Depending on your state, you may also need to check the law in your city or county to see if there is a different minimum wage rate.
Alaska
Current State Minimum Rate: $11.73/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $11.91/hr
Arizona
Current State Minimum Rate: $14.35/hr, $11.35/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $14.70/hr, $11.70/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
California
Current State Minimum Rate: $16.00/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $16.50/hr
** Note: The above figures represent California state minimum wages, however, numerous local jurisdictions in California have their own minimum wage rates. Please research the minimum wage rate in your local jurisdiction.
Colorado
Current Minimum Rate: $14.42/hr, $11.40/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $14.81/hr, $11.79/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Connecticut
Current Minimum Rate: $15.69/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $16.35/hr
Delaware
Current Minimum Rate: $13.25/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $15.00/hr
Illinois
Current Minimum Rate: $14.00/hr, $8.40/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $15.00/hr, $9.00/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Maine
Current Minimum Rate/hr: $14.15/hr, $7.08/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Michigan
Current Minimum Rate: $10.33/hr, $3.93/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Current Minimum Rate: $12.00/hr

New Jersey
Current Minimum Rate: $15.13/hr, $5.26/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $15.49/hr (for employers with 6 or more employees), $14.53/hr (for seasonal and employers with less than 6 employees), $5.62/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
New York (NYC, Long Island and Westchester)
Current Minimum Rate: $16.00/hr, $10.65/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $16.50/hr, $11.00/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
New York (all other areas outside of NYC, Long Island and Westchester)
Current Minimum Rate: $15.00/hr, $10.00/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $15.50/hr, $10.35/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Ohio
Current Minimum Rate: $10.45/hr, $5.25/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025 $10.70/hr (only those employers with annual gross receipts of more than $394,000 per year), $5.35/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Rhode Island
Current Minimum Rate: $14.00/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $15.00/hr
South Dakota
Current Minimum Rate: $11.20/hr, $5.60/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $11.50/hr, $5.75/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Vermont
Current Minimum Rate: $13.67/hr, $6.84/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Starting January 1, 2025: $14.01/hr, $7.01/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage
Virginia
Current Minimum Rate: $12.00/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $12.41/hr
Washington
Current Minimum Rate: $16.28/hr
Starting January 1, 2025: $16.66/hr
